BIOGRAPHY

I was born January 7, 1977 in Baltimore, Maryland. I graduated from high school with an interest in foreign languages, which I continued to study my first year of college. Even though I enjoyed studying French and Spanish, it wasn't everything that I wanted. I felt that I needed to take time off from school and do things I enjoyed, primarily traveling and skiing. I moved to Colorado and became a ski instructor, and during the summer months I was able to travel in the United States and Europe. While traveling I visited museums and galleries, and I realized that I had a new passion. Art was something that inspired me, and without even realizing it I was constantly taking photographs. I finally enrolled in my first drawing class and photography class, and I haven't stopped taking art classes since.

I live in a very remote, but beautiful valley in Colorado. Because of what is around me I find myself going to my favorite hiking trails frequently to take pictures. I photograph simple, beautiful forms in nature, and interpret them so they can be seen in a new way, using infrared or high-speed film. I like the contrasts I can achieve, and the details which are usually overlooked in shadows.

This May I will be graduating with a BFA degree from Western State College. I will be leaving the Gunnison Valley and I hope to head for the west coast, to expand my photographic skills in new surroundings. I want to attend graduate school in the near future to continue my studies in the field that has taken over my life.
